Illustration of a cantilever beam with a sensor

I calibrated a PCB 352A24 accelerometer against a PCB 301A11 reference. Then I used it to measure the resonances of an aluminium cantilever beam and compared them with beam theory.

What

I did

01

Calibrated the accelerometer by comparison.

02

Clamped a 300 by 25 by 3 mm aluminium cantilever.

03

Measured three resonances and compared them with Euler-Bernoulli values of 27.20, 170.47 and 477.31 Hz, a difference of +0.01%, -0.55% and -1.74%.

04

Estimated damping at 2.02%, 2.90% and 1.85%.

+ Honest result

Where it fell short

My transmissibility results show discrepancies. I report them as they are and did not correct the data to make them fit.
